(March 27, 2018 – San Bernardino, CA) After two years of successful seasonal operations, UPS Airlines has launched regular daily flights from SBD International Airport. UPS now operates a flight five days a week between SBD and its Worldport global air hub in Louisville, Kentucky, with Boeing 767 wide-body freighter. A 767, with a maximum payload of 132,000 lbs. can carry more than 15,000 Next Day Air express packages.

The agreement between the airport and UPS includes operating space and aircraft parking positions located in the central portion of the airfield.

“Adding service from SBD is the result of growing demand for express air shipments. With a daily flight to UPS Worldport in Louisville, businesses and residential customers in the Inland Empire have a direct connection to UPS’s worldwide air network, speeding packages to destinations around the globe,” said Tom Cuce, president of UPS’s Southern California District.

Carey Davis, Mayor of the City of San Bernardino and President of the San Bernardino International Airport Authority, added “We are pleased to accommodate growing demand for air cargo in the Inland Empire and are happy to see UPS continue operating from SBD year-round, and in the years to come. UPS is already a major employer in the region, and has been hiring people from our community to support these ongoing flights.”

During the peak holiday shipping season in 2017, UPS operated up to 18 flights a week from SBD, and potentially will add supplemental flights to the schedule again during peak periods in 2018.

In recent years, SBD has made key investments to support air cargo activities which include tremendous expansion and development potential; SBD offers a competitive environment for air cargo companies and freight forwarders looking to grow their presence in Southern California.
