About SBD Builds

Capital Improvement Projects (CIPs) at an airport are strategic investments in the construction, rehabilitation, and modernization of aviation infrastructure. Through long-term planning and funding, airport CIPs help maintain regulatory compliance, improve operational capacity, enhance the passenger experience, and prepare the airport for future growth.

Our Projects

At San Bernardino International Airport (SBD), the CIP includes current and future projects on the airfield and in the terminal. Airfield projects include the runway, taxiways, and aircraft parking ramps. Terminal projects are designed to enhance the passenger experience and improve overall operational efficiency through facility improvements, modernization efforts, and upgrades to supporting infrastructure. Together, these projects strengthen the airport’s operational capacity, enhance safety, and position the airport to meet increasing passenger and airline demand while supporting economic development throughout the region.

Slurry Sealing and Airfield Painting

Slurry seal can extend the life of asphalt pavement surfaces, while airfield markings  demark certain airfield areas for pilots to help ensure the safe and efficient movement of aircraft. Slurry seal involves applying a mixture of asphalt emulsion, fine aggregates, and additives to existing asphalt pavements and helps seals minor cracks, protects against weathering, and extends the service life of pavement. Following slurry seal, airfield markings are painted to enhance and restore worn airfield markings.  Together, these improvements extend pavement life and contribute to safe aircraft operations.

Reconstruction of the North Aircraft Ramp

Aircraft ramps are paved areas where planes park, load passengers or cargo, and receive services such as fueling or maintenance. Over time, pavement in these areas deteriorate due to age and weather. Reconstruction involves removing old pavement and preparing  sub-base materials and new concrete. This process improves safety, supports modern aircraft, and helps ensure aircraft ramps safely support aircraft operations now and into the future.

Reconstruction of Taxiway A

Over time, concrete taxiways deteriorate with age as the pavement becomes brittle over many years of continuous service.  Reconstruction involves removing old pavement  and installing sub-base material and concrete pavement.  This work improves safety, allows planes to move smoothly around the airport, and ensures the taxiway can handle aircraft operations for many years to come.
